Be Looking for Your Other Brother

Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable?

Proverbs 20:6 (NLT)

This proverb suggests that there are few truly loyal friends. However, it also suggests that you should be on the continual search for one. They are out there, but you must be proactive in seeking the kind of friendship David and Jonathan possessed.

It could be that your other brother is right under your nose. Begin looking within your circle of acquaintances; for instance, the men with whom you go to church or attend a Bible study. Who are the godliest men you know? List them and begin praying.  While waiting on your other brother, don’t overlook those men you are presently acquainted with or are your friends.

Take the initiative to reach out. Don’t wait for someone to approach you. Listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit giving you peace when you are with certain people. Who makes you feel encouraged after you have been with him? Who makes you smile? Ask this question, “When I leave a certain man, does he make me wiser or better?” There are those men who feel lifted up and wiser after I have been in their presence. That’s the kind of person for whom you are searching.

Whatever you do, don’t give up. It could take a while but the effort, I promise, is worth it. Be assured, that other brother is out there for you.
