Finding Your "Other Brother"

"After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself."1 Samuel 18:1There is no greater example of friendship anywhere in the Bible than that of David, the future king of Israel, and Jonathan, Saul's son, who was next in line to the throne. In many ways, it appeared to be an unlikely friendship. Never discount an unlikely friendship. Your best friend might be someone you would never have chosen.With God, all things are possible. God has ways of connecting people as only He can. What we do know is that God wants to connect you with men who love Him and who actively pursue being a godly husband, a godly dad, and a Christlike man in all he does.In David and Jonathan's relationship, we see what every Christian man needs—another brother who genuinely cares. Let’s define an “other brother.” He is a man who is passionately committed to becoming a better husband, better dad, and more godly man.You want someone who will be committed any time of the day or night, someone who is willing to walk with you on this journey called life, in the good times and bad, someone who will laugh with you and cry with you. Perhaps most of all, you need someone who will be there for you whether he says anything or not.That’s what Jonathan and David were to each other.
