Affirming Words
Scripture
Mark 10:16
And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them, and blessed them.
Dad in blessing your child, it is important that you use affirming words. Jesus’ blessing was a spoken blessing. Your child’s ears will be attuned to your affirming words. You can either strengthen your child through your words or you can tear down your child. This will most often happen in your daily conversations. Proverbs 18:21The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit. The Hebrews believed that the spoken word carried great power for good or evil. Your words are not only important, but the way you use those words to communicate is equally as powerful. Your tone will carry great influence either positively or negatively.5 Ways to Affirm your Child:
1. Always consider the power of what you say
2. Consider how you say something to your child.
3. What you say to your child and how you say it carries a tremendous influence on your child that can affect their decisions and attitude.
4. Practice using phrases like: I Love You, I am so proud of you, please forgive me, I was wrong (if you were wrong), and How can I help you, and what do you think?
5. Remember it takes, according to research, the ideal praise-to-criticism ratio is 5:1. Meaning, for every negative comment you make, you need to share five positive comments as well.
Begin today affirming your son or daughter with your words. Blessings always include what you say and how you say it.
