Consistent Affirmation
Scripture
Mark 10:14-15
When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone, who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
Dad, Blessing your child includes your affirmation, you're intentionally letting your child know through words, actions, and attitudes that you are for him or her. Jesus taught us how to do this. Notice what Jesus is doing. He uses the children as an example of those who make up the Kingdom of God. Imagine, Jesus was pointing to the children and telling the adults, “You need to be more like these children.” Children are trusting. How affirming that was to the children present.5 Ways to Consistently Affirm your Child:
- Share with your child how happy you were the day he or she was born.
- Share some stories about the funny and profound things your child has done or said in the past
- Make much of celebrating his or her birthday
- Catch your child doing something right and brag on him or her
- When correcting your child use the sandwich approach. Sandwich your correction between two positive statements.
Begin today by communicating with your child words of affirmation on who he or she is and be consistent with that affirmation. (From The Dad Blessing).
