Thou Shalt Not Nag

Scripture

Proverbs 21:9

Thou shalt not nag” :). What is nagging? It is persistent and annoying speech, behavior, or attitude directed at someone. Now nagging is not limited to just females! Men can nag too. It is unattractive and severely limits intimacy emotionally and physically. Nagging can also lead your husband to avoid consulting you on big decisions or sharing details out of fear of upsetting you.A good example of nagging would be continually asking your husband something. Keep in mind that maybe he knows something you don’t and is trying to protect you. Admittedly, sometimes men either just forget something or it’s not a priority for them. But maybe he is waiting for the right time and doesn’t want to worry you about the details.“Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.” (Proverbs 21:9)Solomon is not discounting that the wife may have a legitimate reason to complain. He is warning that the way a wife communicates can either be affirming and encouraging or annoying and discouraging. The word “quarrelsome” or “nag” means strife, contentious, denoting a contest or brawl. No man wants to live in an atmosphere of contention. He longs for peace. Strive to be the ambassador of peace in your home. Remember, your children will most likely mirror your actions whether now or in the future.

5 WAYS TO CREATE A "NO NAG" ZONE

1.When communicating with your husband, make sure he understands what you are asking or saying. Be as crystal clear as possible.2. If you have been a “nagger,” apologize for it. Tell him you genuinely desire to work on not nagging him when trying to communicate something important.3. Once you share something with your husband, you may need to repeat it. However, ask the Holy Spirit to remind him, which will allow you to rely on God to give you peace over an anxious heart.4. Think of things for which you are thankful concerning your husband. Try to dwell on those more than on annoyances.5. Rather than nag your husband over something he didn’t do, make a big deal out of the things he does. Gratefulness is powerful. Brag on him as often as you can.
