Planned Neglect
As a Christian man it is imperative that you constantly check your priorities to make certain they are in biblical order. Jesus is very clear that when we put Him first, all our other priorities will line up in biblical order.
In Matthew 6:33, Jesus said:
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.
When God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit has first place, you will discover your other priorities will be your wife, your children, your church, your job, and then your recreation or fun things. When God is not first, all the other priorities will be out of order.
So, with life being busy for nearly all of us, how do we make certain our priorities are in biblical order. Obviously, it is a daily choice, however I want to introduce you to two words that changed my life and can change yours. The words? Planned Neglect. In my daily priorities there are certain things that I plan to neglect so that I may accomplish what God wants me to do. There are many good things that come our way each day, but not every good thing is a God thing to do at that moment.
At the end of each day, I know there are certain things and people I won’t get to because I have chosen to do those things only, I can do. That is not without challenges, however, pleasing God is the end game goal.
So, as you put Jesus first, there are other things you must plan to neglect and get to them when or if you can. Jesus didn’t do everything, He didn’t heal everyone, He didn’t take time for everyone, not because He didn’t care, but because He knew His purpose and that included things He must do and others He didn’t. Today, plan your planned neglect.
