The Immanuel Factor

Outside of the name Jesus, my favorite name for God in the flesh is the name Immanuel which means “God With Us.” If we can ever grasp the reality of that it will transform our lives.

That name tells us incredible things about the character of our God. When we couldn’t come to Him, He came to us through the process of a normal birth. This baby Who is God, changed history and eternity. Think about that name—Immanuel. You can apply that to stressful days, routine days, difficult days, or ordinary days. This is God up close and personal. This is God going through everything you and I have to face, yet without sin. It means God understands us, He gets us from trials to temptations, from celebrations to heartbreak. “God With Us” makes an eternally significant difference in our daily routine.Consider how that name Immanuel, can be applied:

  • God with us at the hospital
  • God with us in the Emergency Room
  • God with us at the Cemetery
  • God with us at Work
  • God with us in our Marriage
  • God with us in our Parenting and Grandparenting
  • God with us in the Operating Room
  • God with us as we wait on the MRI or CT Scan Results
  • God with us in Bad News
  • God with us in Celebrations
  • God with us in our hurts, habits, and hang up’s
  • God with us wherever we go and whatever we do.

He is a God Who wanted us to know that He is not distant, detached, or withdrawn, but that He is with us, live and in person. He wants us to know that He wants a relationship with us. (From the Wingman Nation Devotional “The Immanuel Factor”—31 Days With God Up and Personal).
