Practice Radical Gratefulness
Scripture
1 Thessalonians 5:18
Ladies, think about your husband. What about him, his actions, words, the things he doesn’t do, are you thankful for? Have you ever specifically told him “Thank you”? Never assume your husband knows you are grateful for who he is and what he does. Expressing your gratefulness to him will bring you even closer as a married couple.Angie will often thank me for the way I provide for our needs. Knowing she never takes what I do for granted and knowing that I never take what she does for granted, creates an atmosphere of gratefulness.“give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus (I Thessalonians 5:18)Paul writing to the Thessalonian believers tells them to practice choosing to be thankful IN all things. He doesn’t say, “for” all things but “in” all things. There is a difference. You are not thankful for your husband’s bad mood or his forgetting to do something you asked for; however, you can be thankful for the things he does do. This is not a matter of feelings, it’s a matter of choice. Thank God daily for your husband and thank your husband for those specific things he does that improve your life. Not only will that encourage your husband, but you will also feel encouraged too—practice radical gratefulness.
5 Things You Can Do to Thank Your Husband:
- Make a list of at least 5 things your husband does for which you are thankful.
- Practice focusing on being thankful for what you have, not for what you don’t have.
- Thank God for your husband daily.
- Share with your children why you are thankful for their dad.
- Remember thankfulness is a choice, not a feeling. So choose thankfulness for your husband over complaining about your husband.
As you practice radical gratefulness for your husband, you will discover that he will desire even more to be the husband he needs to be. (From The Husband Blessing).
