Dad, Take Your Family to Church

Scripture

Matthew 21:14, 23

The blind and the lame came to him at the temple, and he healed them.

Jesus entered the temple courts, and, while he was teaching, the chief priests and the elders of the people came to him. “By what authority are you doing these things?” they asked. “And who gave you this authority?”

Wingman, Jesus habitually attended the House of God. On the Sabbath (Sunday worship since the resurrection), you would find Jesus in God’s House. As men, God has given to you the spiritual leadership role in your home. That means you set the example by being in church on Sunday. You don’t send your wife and children; you bring your wife and children to church with you as you faithfully attend. When it comes to men and the church, the statistics are alarming. Look at a few of those stats:

Quick Facts on the Gender Gap:

You’re not just imagining it. American Christianity is short on men. Here are the facts:

  1. The typical U.S. Congregation draws an adult crowd that’s 61% female, 39% male. This gender gap shows up in all age categories.
  2. On any given Sunday there are 13 million more adult women than men in America’s churches.
  3. This Sunday almost 25 percent of married, churchgoing women will worship without their husbands.
  4. Fewer than 10% of U.S. churches are able to establish or maintain a vibrant men’s ministry.[1]

If Jesus felt the need to be in God’s House as a habit, how much more do we as men need in it our lives?

What you, Dad Can Do:

  1. Make a commitment to a local church. Join the church.
  2. Pray daily for your church and leadership (pastor, staff, deacons, leaders).
  3. Support your church financially through tithes and offerings.
  4. Get involved in a men’s ministry. If no men’s ministry, ask your pastor about starting a Wingman Nation chapter.
  5. Make attending church your practice and missing church a rare occurrence. Don’t assume that watching online has all the benefits of being live and in person at church on Sunday.

The man who does not in some way, active or not, connect himself with some, active, working church misses many opportunities for helping his neighbors, and therefore, incidentally, for helping himself.

– Teddy Roosevelt

Dad, in a time where many are opting to simply watch church online (and that is a great alternative if you absolutely cannot get to church), it’s not the same as you gathering your family and bringing them to church. We at Wingman Nation challenge you to have your family in church this Sunday!
