Blessing Your Child

Scripture

People were bringing little children to Jesus for Him to place His hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them.” Mark 10:13Wingman, bless your child. It is one of the most important actions you can do toward your son or daughter.Jesus loved children and children loved Jesus. Through His words, actions, and attitude, He demonstrated His kindness to them. Even when the disciples attempted to prevent the children from coming to Him (attempting to protect His time and energy), He firmly told His disciples to let the children come to them. Jesus prayed for them, blessed them, lovingly touched them, and affirmed them. He announced that the Kingdom of God would be made up of people like the children to whom He was speaking, referring to a child’s profoundly simple faith. Jesus accepted the children as they were. Regardless of where they were from, who they belonged to, or what they had or didn’t have, Jesus blessed the children, speaking well to them and of them.

A Christian man is loving and kind to children.

  1. As a father, bless your child. Speak your words of affirmation and acceptance to him or her and let them know that no matter what they do or don’t do, you are their father and you will always be there for them.
  2. Be the kind of man that children feel comfortable approaching you, talking to you, and asking you questions. Be the kind of man with whom children feel safe and secure.
  3. Let your child hear from you, “I Love You!” It is vitally important to tell your child that and affirm it through loving touch such as hugs and kisses.
  4. Pray specifically for your child and the children you know for:
    • Salvation
    • A Mate
    • Protection
    • Friendships
  5. Instill a hope-filled future in your children, reminding them that God has a special purpose and plan for their lives as they follow Him.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

(Jeremiah 29:11)

Men are never manlier than when they are tender with their children—whether holding a baby in their arms, loving their grade-schooler, or hugging their teenager or adult children.
