The Exit-Strategy Principle

I Corinthians 10:13

“No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

Although Satan can surprise you with temptation to sin, you are aware of how, when and where he most often tempts you. Before the temptation comes, you need to have a strategy for dealing with it.

There are practical steps on building exits before the temptation comes to say “Yes” to temptation.

Let me offer a few:

  1. Practice spiritual disciplines.

  2. Be in an active accountability relationship.

  3. Confess sinful thoughts immediately and replace them with Scripture.

  4. Take care of your body by exercising and getting enough sleep.

  5. Place internet filtering and accountability software on all computers.

  6. Remove yourself from those people, places and situations where you are most likely to be triggered to tempted to sin.

Most everyone will go through specific steps or rituals prior to giving into the temptation. Help people understand the power of interrupting those rituals prior to giving into temptation.

Waiting until the actual temptation occurs often means defeat. Know how you will respond before the temptation ever knocks at your door. Start practicing the Exit-Principle today.
