The Power of Serving Others
The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.
Matthew 23:11-12
Jesus tells us that the way to true greatness, real honor, is to be a servant, to demonstrate the love of God through tangible actions that benefit others done with humility. It’s showing that you care by what you do toward another person. Serving is actionable, seeable, observable, tangible. The motivation is to please and glorify God. John Wesley, one of the founders of the Methodist Church, said: “Do all the good you can by all the means you can in all the places you can at all the times you can to all the people you can as long as ever you can.”Billy Graham said: “The highest form of worship is the worship of unselfish Christian service.” As you serve others, with no expectation of reciprocation, doors of opportunity to make a God impression will open for you. In a world of “Me first,” or “What’s in it for me?” serving someone definitely gets their attention. This will remind people of Jesus.Start asking, “What can I do to serve him or her?” and not “I wonder what he or she can do for me?” That question will present open doors to tell your story of how Jesus saved you. Why? Because it is such a rarity in our society. When you possess a servant spirit and act on it, it creates the question within others, “What is so different about him?”Today, pray for opportunities to serve someone. It could be eternal.
