10 Things Christians Should Do For Their Country

We are celebrating the birth of the United States of America. This is the 246th birthday of America. Our Republic came at great sacrifice.

Fifty-six men signed the Declaration of Independence. Their conviction resulted in untold sufferings for themselves and their families. Of the 56 men, five were captured by the British and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons in the Revolutionary Army.Another had two sons captured. Nine of the fifty-six fought and died from wounds or hardships of the war. Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships sunk by the British navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts and died in poverty. At the battle of Yorktown, the British General Cornwallis had taken over Thomas Nelson's home for his headquarters. Nelson quietly ordered General George Washington to open fire on the Nelson home. The home was destroyed and Nelson died bankrupt. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their thirteen children fled for their lives. His fields and mill were destroyed. For over a year, he lived in forest and caves, returning home only to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later, he died from exhaustion. There was a high cost attached to the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

Here are 10 things, you as a citizen, should do for your country:

  1. Never take for granted the amazing Freedoms we Possess (especially the freedom to worship). People gave their lives so we could live in freedom. Be thankful!
  2. Pray for Elected Leaders
  • Pres and his Cabinet
  • Congress (House and Senate)
  • Governor
  • State Legislatures
  • Local Commissioners
  • Local School Board Members
  • Mayor
  1. Vote

30 million Christians aren’t registered to vote, therefore don’t vote. You must find out the worldview of the candidates and compare it with a biblical worldview. Vote biblically.

  1. Voice your Concerns.

Take a Stand. Write letters, emails, texts, share Facebook posts. Let your convictions be known. Christianity is a personal faith but not a private faith.

  1. Share your Encouragements

When an elected official does something right, let him or her know it. That will go a long way.

  1. Support the Military

Pray for the military. Support greater budgets for the military. Peace occurs through strength.

  1. Support Law Enforcement

Let them know you appreciate them. Stand against a “defund the police” idealogy.

  1. Support Pro-Life Causes

Vote pro-life and support Crisis Pregnancy Centers. They are under attack by non-Christians as never before.

  1. Public Display of Affection (Display the Flag, Observe the National Anthem, and find ways to display your love for America)
  1. Live Out Your Faith—Support your Church—Your church does much for your community. Join a church and serve the Lord through it.

If we don’t cherish and protect the freedoms we have, we could be only one generation away from losing those freedoms. Wingman, do your part!Somewhat deflated, Bob rang the local supermarket to find out if this was true. “Can I speak to the Vice President of peas please?” he asked, to which the reply came: “of fresh or frozen?”Don’t get puffed up with your own importance. Just keep following the example of the Servant of all servants. This week, choose someone to encourage and help, and do something for someone who cannot do anything for you in return. Who will that person be? Write their name here: _______________. Pray for wisdom to know what to do and how to help him.
