An "On-Purpose" Man
Scripture
Matthew 5:17; John 19:30
Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. (Matthew 5:17)When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.” With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (John 19:30)Jesus was the consummate example of a Man Who understood and fulfilled His purpose. He came with a mission from the Father. During the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus announced that He had not come to destroy the Law or the Prophets but to fulfill the Law and all prophecy. His whole life was about the purpose the Father had entrusted unto Him. Jesus endured the most gruesome temptations by Satan himself, that any man had ever faced, yet Jesus never wavered in knowing Who He was and why He came to earth.As Jesus was on the cross, he said, “It is finished.” Jesus had fulfilled His purpose by paying the debt of sin for every human being past, present, and future. Like Jesus, a Christian man’s purpose should involve doing something eternally significant.
Becoming an On-Purpose Man:
- God made every man with a purpose, a reason for being on earth. That purpose is eternally significant. David is a great example:
After removing Saul, he made David their king. God testified concerning him: “I have found David son of Jesse, a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.” (Acts 13:22)
- Make finding your purpose a passionate pursuit. Seek to know daily what God wants you to do. Make sure your sins are confessed and that your heart and motive are right, and then ask the Holy Spirit to reveal God’s purpose for you.
- To discover your purpose, do those things you know are God’s will, including reading the Bible, confessing sin, worshipping, praying, living a life of purity, attending church, and doing acts of ministry.
- As a Christian man, one of God’s purposes for your life is to spiritually lead your wife and children. Lovingly lead by example and encouraging them to live for God.
- When you discover your passion, your reason for being on earth, you will find joy, peace, and empowerment as you pursue it. The overall purpose of any Christian man’s life is to glorify God.
