God's Boomerang

GALATIANS 6:7-9
7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, this he will also reap. 8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.Wingmen, there is a law that God has given that never, ever fails. It is the law of sowing and reaping. Let me illustrate that law by comparing it to a boomerang. A boomerang is an instrument that is designed such that when thrown, it comes back to you. Life is filled with boomerangs. What we do, what we say, and what we think all comes back to us. It is a law. That’s what Paul is saying here when he shares with us the laws of the harvest.These laws are irrefutable, unalterable, indisputable, and unquestionable. There are no loopholes or shortcuts. You can’t circumvent the law of sowing and reaping. Sowing speaks of your activity, your actions. It can be good, or it can be bad. You are constantly sowing. The reaping is the result, the consequences, the fruit, of what you have done. You are either reaping the blessings of God because you did it His way, or you are reaping the consequences because you did it your way and left Him out.What you sow, determines how you live. Notice what Paul shared with the Church at Galatia….
I. You Have to DO Something
“for whatever a man sows…” (Galatians 6:7)You have to make the first move. God is waiting on you. Nothing is going to happen or change until you do something, and that something is obeying Him. You must sow something to reap something. No farmer simply waits to see what’s going to happen. He has to sow the seed. If you do nothing, you can expect nothing. It’s the If-Then Principle. IF you meet the conditions, THEN God will do His part. Give God something to work with. Demonstrate faith and obedience by acting on God’s Word.
II. You Can’t Fool God
“Do not be deceived, God is not mocked” (Galatians 6:7).You can’t do as you please and expect God to bless it. You can’t break God’s laws and expect to get by with it and escape the consequences. You can’t bend God’s rules and look for God’s blessings. “Do not be deceived, God is not mocked.” To mock God means to be cynical about, to ignore, to laugh at Him or dare Him to do something. Most often people mock God by treating Him as irrelevant in their lives and ignoring Him until they need something or have trouble. Don’t blame God when you reap the consequences of your own choice to disregard what He said.
III. You Reap What You Have Sown
“for whatever a man sows, this will he reap” (Galatians 6:7).You can’t sow one thing and reap something else. If you plant an apple seed, you won’t get watermelons. If you plant corn, you won’t get turnips. You get back what you have sown. There is never an exception to this. What is it you want to reap? Then that is what you must sow.
IV. You Reap More Than You Sow
What you sow, multiplies in return. You get more than you give. It is the law of multiplication. You reap a greater harvest. Whether what you are sowing is good or bad, positive or negative, you will reap more back.
V. If You Sow More, You Reap More
More seeds, more harvest. You determine how much you want to be blessed. You simply cannot out give God.II Corinthians 9:6 - Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.The reason many Christians get so little out of their Christianity is because they put so little into it. Your motive for sowing must always be to glorify God and make disciples.
VI. You Must Give It Time
It takes time for seeds to germinate. It takes time for us to see fruit or results. You don’t plant one day and have a crop the next. With God, sometimes the results are immediate; however, the rule is if you sow it, you will reap it; and it takes time. The harvest is always later than the sowing. It will come, but in God’s timing. That’s where our faith is tested. Sow and then hang on, hang tough, don’t give up. Sometimes an answered prayer or a God intervention takes days, months, years, even decades or more. Sometimes the harvest comes when we have already gone to heaven.
VII. You Will Reap (Galatians 6:9)
Not maybe, might, or possibly, but SHALL!This is a direct promise from God. It is a fact, a law. It’s certain to happen. It will not fail. “Due time” means in time and on time; God’s time. God never forgets what you have sown. Your due time will come.Consider six questions as they apply to the law of sowing and reaping:
- What are you sowing Spiritually?
Ephesians 3:2020 Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
- What are you sowing Financially?
Luke 6:3030 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.
- What are you sowing Relationally?
Mark 12:3131 The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
- What are you sowing Morally?
I Peter 1:1616 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
- What are you sowing Physically?
I Corinthians 6:1313 Food is for the stomach and the stomach is for food, but God will do away with both of them. Yet the body is not for immorality, but for the Lord, and the Lord is for the body.
- What are you sowing Mentally?
Philippians 4:88 Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these thingsAlthough you cannot go back and undo the consequences of something you have sown, the grace of God can give you a new beginning and use your past as a testimony. Begin today sowing those things that will give to you God’s promised blessings.
